Counting techniques with Backing track 7 part lesson

Part  1  Full note count 

A whole last for one bar.

As a beginner it is hard as we concentrate with fret , notes, chords , left and right hand. It is a lot to take in.

The aim of this is to help with right hand ( or left handed players)

In music as whole there is basic rules to counting out notes

There is 2 mp3 file to help with timing set at 60BPM

The Tab is help with files.

Place your 1st finger on the 2nd Fret of the 5th string  ( 2nd String closet to your face)
The 0= open note , ie do not fret that note hence 6th string is left open 

The bar is 4/4 timing  
top number tell us that is 4 beat in one Bar
bottom line tells us the beat value in this case it 1/4 
Then for one bar there a group of 4 1/4 notes 

For example 
4/8

Top line 4 beats 
bottom line would be 4 groups of 8th note and so on

we tend to stay in the 4/4 


The 1st file is a one bar count( 4 clicks ) the TAB sound kick in. 
Drums Crash is 1st beat and snare is on 2,3 and 4 beat

hence strike the chord once and count out with the drums 1,2,3,4

For me hear we will divide the whole beat into as follows 

1 full
2 Half ( 
3 Quarters
4 8ths
5 16ths

then the special beats used in the blues and rock 

1 Triplets
2  shuffle 

we go through them at on part at time on this tread

P2 1/2 notes

To do this we divide the Full( or whole ) note by 2

Then we would count out
12 then 34

Hence we strike the note on the 1st count let ring as 2 then strike the note on count 3 and let ring onto 4

We now divide the full note by 4 hence 4 group of note to one bar

Count out
1 2 3 4

Strike the chord 4 times in this bar

p4 8th notes

We divide the whole note by 8

The counting as follows

1 a 2 a 3 a 4 a

The Hit hat counts out the 8ths noets
Drums
Bass 1 and 3
snare 2 and 4

To each bass two Hi hats
to each snare two Hi Hats

Hence we are starting to play a bit faster due the number of beat in each bar

We divide the whole note by 16

then 1/4= 4 1/6 nothes

counting

1 a a e 2 a a e 3 a e e 4 a a e

This is very rapid not used much

Triplets

A triplet is made form a 1/4( we are keeping this simple as there is other ones)

we divide the 1/4 into 3

Hence we get this blues feel ( Elmore Jamses dust my Broom classic example )

We the count out as

Tri pl et or 1 2 3, 2 2 ,3 , 3 2 3 , 4 2 3 - 4 groups of 3

Hold your back intro relies on triplets.

Shuffle beat final one

The Shuffle is related to Trilpets family of notes. As i believe as tempo increase for a drummer the Triplets become impossible.

1 2 3 we miss out the 2nd count , we then get 1 x 3. 2 x 3, 3 x 3 , 4 x 3 (x is note we don`t play)

Hence we get the pulse sound.

Hope these exaples help to improved the right hand. As these are commoom to all Guitar music or any musical intrmnet
