Aim to discuss tunings that status quo use and how to achieve it ,and talk about possible problems that may arise with them, like string gauges. 3 main ones are + 4th one rarely used
1 Open G GGDGBD
2 B tuning BBDGBE 4 C tuning CCDGBE
4 POMM and ITTS EADGBB
5 Drop D DADGBE
Rick Parfitt The gauge of the strings Rick uses are: .14 .17 .26w .36w 46w 56w. (these are heavy gauge strings!)
1 Open G GGDGBD
Tune the 6th up To 6( But pleasuee sure that your Guitar can that type of strain, mine was set a up a local Guitar shop)
2 B tuning BBDGBE 14 .17 .26w .36w 46w and .60W
As hardqou has said in the past ( and i 2nd this) Tyy a .56 min for the 6th.
Tune the 6th down to B Tune the 5th string up to B
the rest as standatrd tuning.
C tuning is same as B tuning , but the this 6th down to C , 5th up to C!!
4 POMM and INTS .
Franicnis teunes the 1st string down to B ( i can`t find info in the Gauge that francis uses for the 1st down to B( at a gues . 11 i.e same a the B string )
5 Drop D
Detune the 6th down D ( rick use a .56 guage for that, .60 works just as well as that is what use
Status quo uses capos aswell.
I sure there some other tuning that is to come to light.
I find that the more you familiarise with Quo tuned songs, the more rapidly you can tune to any of them in just a few seconds.
Some people say the different tunings can damage a guitar - especially if left in those tunings (especially Open G). What do you think?
My dream for the end of Quo - to see every member of the band past and present on the same stage at the last ever gig. As the encore ends, they all stand on the stage in the "Tank" formation with teles playing Rick's intro to Caroline as the stage sinks from view in dry ice .

Form experience , I would say 9, 11, 16, 24, 32, 42. or 10, 13, 17, 26, 36, 46. are ideal. As you would be slaking of the 6th,5th and 1st.
2 it would depend on your playing style, ie hitting hard or not. I know if use light stings I tend to knock them out of tune..
3 Action of the Guitar , as slaking them off drops the height of the strings, and sometimes gives a buzzing noise
Now if we are talking about Ricks ones. 14 .17 .26w .36w 46w 56w. then it should be taken to a local Guitar shop, ie so that can check the Truss rod.
A few year back I went to my local Guitar shop, I asked about using the heavy strings, they had a look at it worked, I also got the action changed as well. Never looked back it goes like hammers now!!
