I'm brand-new to this site...and quite frankly brand-new to a message board in general. If I don't know all the lingo and 'codes of ethic' - my apologies in advance.
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone out here could help me authenticate a Rick Parfitt owned and used white Fender Telecaster.
The guitar was build at the Nashville, TN plant and dates back to late 1989. It shows all the common signs of use and wear. The guitar was eventually given to a local contest winner after the September 21, 1991 concert in Birmingham (N.E.C.). Rick signed the guitar on the front. The back of the body further has a piece of tape that simply reads 'R.A.O.T.W.' as well as a label that reads 'Rock No. 1'.
I did contact Lloyd Gilbert but he was not employed at the time and is understandably not comfortable lending his name to an instrument that he never handled.
The credentials of this Birmingham prize winner do all check out and apparently the hand-over of the guitar after the show was filmed by a local TV station. However, there are no photos and I haven't been able to find that footage either. There's some more details but I don't want to make this story too long.
So, anyone who could help me by either pointing me in the right direction or telling me what to look for...all the help will be GREATLY appreciated!
local contest winner after the September 21, 1991 that would be correct as they give out a signed Guitar to a member of an audience( The Glasgow one they called out a ticket number) and clyde one radio was doing things on srage that day. But there was no info giving out that day anout the donation.
The only thing can think is the Book that came out (just for the record ) that info about the gear used in RTYD sep 21st 1991 as it might have the info about there Tech. I have checked the book no info about the Guitar tech.
Thanks Quomanuk! It certainly helps to know that they did something similar in Glasgow.
In your opinion - and I use the word 'opinion' here so I will treat it as such - do you think it's common for Rick to give away a used guitar that truly seemed to have been pulled from his rig? I mean the guitar has dents, scratches, the usual array of 'zipper / belt' wear etc. This was by no means a brand new guitar that they pulled out of a box. Also the tape and label on the back indicate that this was a well-used guitar.
Was Rick known for giving away used guitars?
Thanks again - I truly value your thoughts / opinion.

Backsatge If I am truly honest and going by Signed Guitars that gave away in Comptions tend to the Squire Range Hence nothing like the one you have, and 2nd and from memory of the RTYD sep 21st tour they Gave away one signed Guitar for each of the shows, and I can`t think back that far to what was said during the random ticket numbers. The Guitar was sigend before the Gigs for each show , and I think they used copys of there Guitars during the 4 shows( that would make sense due the timing of each show).
My option would be maybe the used clone Guitars before they went on tour and hence maybe that why you one has been used and the signed.
I hope make some sort on sense.
Again I hope someone has more knowledge that can help you out, as I have limited working knowledge of the Quo.
Thank you for posting as that what the site was intended for.
