I am looking at this as muso point of view. But these song may have sound different or would never been thought of it.
From 1968 to 1981 Quo seemed to very creative with finding new sounds. But when I was looking into later stuff from 1982 to the present they seemed to sticking to Standard tunings.
Ok they there is Power of rock, 4500x mk2 and You let me down . I can`t think of any more from 1982 to the 2015.
POMM the High E dropped down B (EADGBB)
Like Mystery song with modified Open G (GGDGBD) must hand it to rick for that clever away round the 6th ( er Keith Richards took of the 6th in his open G)
The 4500 B tuning (BBDGBE)
Coming and Going C ( CCDGBE)
Show me the way home ( Down a tone from Standard)
Over the edge ( Open G tune down a 1/2 step)
Drop D is used by other artist hence I will ignore that.
I wonder what made them explore these musical landscapes?
Just imagine if Rick never tried the modified tuning Mystery song riff would never have exists.
Respect to Quo for these great findings that has inspired me to try new tunings , or even try my own ones.
I think it is something that they do lack now. The creativity when playing within a tuning was what made a lot of their 70`s album very special.
From a playing point of view. When they play some of those old songs live, they still play them as they wrote them back then with the turnings being fully observed. That`s the way the songs were interned to be played. It would seem very odd for others not to observe that, then wonder why others know it isn`t correct or acceptable, then go on to be miffed when it`s highlighted. Surely it`s about doing it as intended. That`s why this board is here. We want to try and be better, learn good habits from each other and accept it when mistakes are made and highlighted in a constructive way.
