This is for a 1st time Guitar , did you but or a gift to you. Don`t now were to start ?
Fig 1
Fig 1 is know as the headstalk of the Guitar.
As you can guess the tuning pegs will tune the Guitar to a note. *** Acoustic Guitar top 3 pegs right to ler are 6,5,4 and the bottom pegs 3,2,1 not show hear
The numbers 1 to 6 are the string numbers. the 6th is fare left , the 1st is the far Right. Electrics 1,2 and 3 are the treble string plan steel. 4,5 and 6 are the wound strings( you can see the difference in fig 1).
For Electric Guitars most people will use Gauge 9 or 10 there is many variations as through time it will become a personnel feel and choice
Infio taken for the Status quo site
*** string numbers are 1,2,3,4,5,6 note that string are getting thicker as the move left to right
The gauge of the strings Francis uses are: .09 .11 .16 .26w 34w 46w. w is short for wound.
The gauge of the strings Rick uses are: .14 .17 .26w .36w 46w 56w. (these are heavy gauge strings. WARNING DO NOT PUT THEM ON THE GUITAR WITHOUT A PROPER PRO SET UP. IE THE YOUR LOCAL GUITAR SHOP.
The question you have asked yourslef is why Rick and Fransis have differnt gauges of string sets?
A ) As you know francis plays lead, and the thiner gauge string is easier to bend. Most Guitar played will use 9th. As Rick play rhythm and knocks the stunnfing out of the strings. They are stiffer and harder to bend. I deal and a thicker tone. If rick had use Francis Guitar we would know them out of tune
can tune Guitar with Tuner ( there clip on tuners or pedal tuners )
1st string is tuned to High E this is highest pitch of the open notes ( the thinnest string ) 2nd "" is tuned B 3rd "" "" "" G 4th(wound strings) tuned to D 5th "" "" "" A 6th "" "" "" E lowest sounding open string and thickets of the all
Reading from 6th to 1st looks like, EADGBE read that 6th to 1st that how notate String tuning.
The 2 MIDI notes are set at 60 Beat per minute (BPM for short) Tuning 1 drum click 4 counts then 6th drums 5th and all way to the 1st string Tuning 2 4 clcik count and then the 6th to 1st one bar at a time
TAB 1. If we go back to fig 1 take note of the String number. Then try this look at TAB 1. Look at number 6. I hope can see that that is the thicket String ( closet to your face) , note the mirror like iverion. The TAB 1 number is 6 is at the bottome the page , this is important as it will help to read all TABS. By ear is still best method m, TABS helps us out if we don`t have a good Ear for muisc.
Let look at TAB 1 Number 1 go back to fig 1 and look at number 1. I hope we can see that the TAB shows Number at the Top line and fig 1 show that Number one is at floor level.
The was work like the 6th is a the bottom a clibs up a Stair ( 6 steps ) then we reaches the number one
Latter on we will look at this in more detail.
TAB read from Bottom to the top as 654321. hence the standard tuning would read like this EADGBE
From fig 1 the nut act like a fret ( the open string is where the open notes start form)
The bottom of fig 2 is the metal vertical strips. By looking at this , I hope that you can see that from the nut far right , the moving to the left we can see that frets get closer together.
The dots( some Guitars has blocks) help to us navigate around the Guitar. Starting from the Nut we can see the 1st dot Marked as 3. That tell us the is 3rd Fret. Hence we get 3,5,7,9 and 12. The final double dot is as ocatave ( there is 12 notes in chromatic musical scale ). The Open note is one octave higher at the 12 fret ( hence 1st string E open is now the same note E at the 12th Fret that sound One octave Higher.
