OK, Topic this week is "Your Favourite Rick Moment"
By this I mean any part of a song, album, interview, Riff, Lyric - whatever really
This may be hard to narrow down, so you can have a couple
Me first
There are many great Rick moments, If I have to pick then they will be:
Second: Don't Waste My Time - in the middle where he plays without the band
And in First Place, Mystery song, but specifically in this clip where he has his shirt undone with the wind blowing through his hair . The ultimate rock star image
My dream for the end of Quo - to see every member of the band past and present on the same stage at the last ever gig. As the encore ends, they all stand on the stage in the "Tank" formation with teles playing Rick's intro to Caroline as the stage sinks from view in dry ice .
I agree regarding Mystery Song but in particular the twiddly bit at the beginning of the album version.
I like this clip even without the twiddly bits, or the singing!
#I have been (trying) to play guitar since I was 16, nearly 40 years ago. I can usually nail most of the old classic rock anthems (not the lightening solos) but could never really play Quo, just could not get it. Then when i saw the lick library DVD I suddenly understood why. Rick manages to turn some very very simple ideas into incredible sounds. Different tuning, only fret alternative strings and suddenly - WOW!

back in 1988 ( 14 at the time) i found the 12GB LP. What i have found strange that Mystery song had done the same to qou fans ( muso or not). 1988 i did not play Guitar and magic sound just drew me in, like a moth to the flame.
What a clever chap rick was , as we may know or not that Keith Richards take off the 6th string, and Rick tuned it up to match the the string. That is genies.
2nd the sound great production that drives that song along. That magic Flanger sound during that record, liting to the End of the road version sounds different, even Quo today has not matched sound from 1976?
For many a year i have tried to capture that unique sound. Seen a few quo tribs seem like we can`t capture that sound. A bit like the pyramids.
Now this is clever
And Rick
I never made that connection. These songs that i love Open G ( and the capo). Yet Rain sound like a new riff. Magic
