"To all quo fans, I am an 18 year old wishing to know quo's secret on how they came across there sound in the late 60s when they were a psychedelic band. I am trying to find that exact sound that not just quo use but also what the beatles used for there psychedelic era. I am trying to find this sound as at the momment my band is working on our first album, but I need that sound just to be prepared when we go into the studio to work on our pyschedelic material. If anybody knows how to get that unique psyedelic sound please lemme know or anything similar!
thanks jay."

"Tape Phasing (as it was then) and/or Flanging.
Legend has it that someone accidentally leaned on the capstan of one of the tape machines during a Beatles session, creating the effect that later became familiar in tracks like Pictures of Matchstickmen and more famously The Small Faces' Itchycoo Park.
Legend also has it that the effect became known as Flanging because, when John Lennon asked George Martin what the sound was, Martin jokingly replied "That's the double bifurcated sploshing flange" (or words to that effect)
From then on, when they wanted tape phasing, the band would ask Geeorge Martin for "that flange thing"
As well as phasing/flanging, you might also want to look into the delights of digital delay (or better still, an old tape delay like a WEM Copicat or the mother of all tape delays - The Roland RE201 Space Echo - if you can find one!)
Check out the Boss RE20 - a digital recreation of the RE201
If you're going to be using any kind of PC/Mac based recording system, you probably have all the relevant effects as plug-ins anyway!
